deaf* people are not "impaired."
my heart sinks whenever someone uses the word "hearing impaired."
other disabilities aren't being described as:
"walking impaired" "sensory impaired" "mentally impaired" "attention impaired" "seeing impaired" etc.
so why use "hearing impaired" to describe people who have hearing difficulties? use the words "hard of hearing" or "deaf" instead, please.
even i see fellow deaf* individuals (including hard of hearing people) use this extremely hurtful and offensive term - it breaks my heart.
we are not "impaired."
