"In Progress" Artist: Audrey Stanton
Although she admitted she doesn’t like to talk about herself, Audrey Stanton is more open when it comes to her art. Pulling out a miniature model of her paper work that she will be displaying at In Progress, Audrey described how a class assignment sparked her latest project. Asked to experiment with paper, Audrey cut and folded the flat material, turning it into a 3-D piece.
Originally from Austin, Texas, Audrey came to the University of Michigan for its broad art program that allows its students to dabble in a little bit of everything. However, Audrey focuses most of her time outside the classroom on graphic design and photography, taking a relaxed approach to art.
She says, “I never take myself too seriously and I usually don’t know what I’m doing but occasionally things work out.”
Recently, she has been doing free lance work and needed advice on coming up with contracts, prompting her involvement with Creative Rights. As a new client, Audrey says she took the opportunity to be involved with In Progress in order to “get involved in the community, meet some people, and have a good time.”
As for what she hopes to get out of participating in the show, Audrey says she’s aiming to “inspire individual thought, which is really important in any society.” She’s not concerned with whether positive or negative reactions are evoked, just as long as her work can get people thinking. And if her miniature model is any indication of what we’ll see at the show, I don’t think that will be a problem.
