Destiny: Your Own Device

I don't swear by "if it's meant to be, it'll happen," because thinking like that skirts any personal responsibility for my actions.

Your future is entirely at the mercy of your choices. It IS possible to completely destroy potential as well as it's never too late to start a new life as a new person, each new day.

If you're lucky enough to wake up, especially after making mistakes, live like the world doesn't owe you another try and count your blessings every time it gives you one, anyway.

My mother told me once when I was very young to never write things down on paper. Something about how it never really erases. I must admit this is part of the reason it took 11 years of my life to sit down and write my first poem. Fear that if I said what I really wanted to say then someone would find it, and use it against me. Or that if I wrote down my sorrows then they'd stay in the back of my mind for even longer. Like the veins in my fingers lead to purely just my brain. It took me 11 years to truly interpret the reality that all veins lead to the heart. That everything does.

I finally got it. I think I have finally received closure after almost a year. Talking to you today felt natural, when we were just talking about random things. When we started talking about what happened to us, I came to a realization. This whole time I thought you didn’t care anymore, that you moved on completely from me because of your new girlfriend. But you still care. You think about us probably as much as I do. I think I was so bothered at the fact that you moved on so fast, that you were able to just forget. Now I know you didn’t. Maybe we will meet again in a couple of years when the timing is right and we have become better people. I’m not going to let this hold me back from meeting people now though. I’m truly happy that you’re happy with your new girlfriend and that you found someone else to love. Someone better for you to love. It’s been almost a year since we broke up and I can finally say that I fully accept that we didn’t work out.

tomorrow is my first day at mac and i am v excited 

i was in a bit of a rut after coming back from kenya but i’ve picked myself back up and have been having a positive mindset and working on myself and i’m feeling good

even tho it sucks that my dad hasn’t been able to work for over a year, it’s kind of nice being able to spend time with him and build a better relationship. happy “a-knee-versary” lol 

so excited for drew to finally move home. after 2 years of doing long distance i can’t wait to be able to spend so much more time w/ him and have so many more adventures and always be able to drag him to go to the bird sanctuary w/ me

ah i want to go back to kenya so bad... i’ve travelled to many places in my life and that trip was truly the best and most life changing (and amsterdam was like 2/10 do not recommend ((actually europe in general is not my fave)) )
