Bonus
Park Bench
We sit on opposite sides of the park bench.
I sit stagnant, as desperation claws at my throat. Still I say nothing, just as you would. Silence keeps us safe, just like the space between us on the bench. And you hum so ignorantly as unshed tears burn my eyes. The once sweet smell of spring makes me sick, your song once so lovely scares me to death.
Screams and cries hanging off the tip of my tongue, but if I utter a word the bench will disappear. And despite this suffocating discomfort, despite my spoiled mind, at least the bench is here - at least we are still sitting on the bench. If I opened my mouth, let my mind flow freely, the bench would disappear, and so would you. So I disobey the invasive warning signs in my head. I cry silently in the night while you rest. I keep my thoughts and feelings away, for the sake of the bench staying - for you staying.
And even with our fingers interlocked, your head resting on my lap, we sit on opposite sides of the park bench.
