Valentine's Gift from Mom
My mother sent me my Great Uncle Dave's books from when he was a child in the mid 1920s to 1930s for Valentine's Day. When I was a kid I would secretly find the metal key and slip it into the hole to open up the glass cabinet where all of his Just So, Uncle Wiggly, and Children's Classics were kept and then hole up in the back room where no one could see me so I could read them. I always thought no one noticed me sneaking the books out, but I guess moms are always secretly paying attention.
Uncle Wiggily Longears is the main character of a series of children's stories by American author Howard Roger Garis. He began writing the stories for the Newark News in 1910. Garis penned an Uncle Wiggily story every day (except Sundays) for more than 30 years, and published seventy-nine books within the author's lifetime.[1][2] The books are illustrated by August Lenox.
