it'd been three days since halloween and august felt like a shell of who she was. her mind kept replaying everything, the whole summer, the fall, and then that fateful night. each time he held her, kissed her, looked into her eyes she swore he was falling for her the same way she had with him. and then he'd gotten distant, after their day in new haven where she really thought this was it. this was the rest of her life.
how silly of her to let her dreams and hope get caught up in some stupid boy. even if that stupid boy was james alcott. she should have seen the signs, they were there from the start, but she had let love blind her. and now he's standing in front of her dorm building, pleading and august knows she should say no - her roommate would be pissed to know she was even talking to him right now - but she can't help it. she has to know the truth, or at least what he thinks it is. "you can drive the loop around providence and back, but that's all you've got." she tries to stay sternly, but she knows it comes out weak and instead she's following james to his car, too many emotions filling her to be able to pull out just one. but she can't help but peek up at him, unable to find it in her to hide the love she still held for him.
