Pick a character I’ve written and I will explain the top ~three to five ideas/concepts/etc I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to accurately depicting them.

starscream

she is like. fundamentally a very selfish person. starscream is the #1 priority at all times. this can come across as her having no ideals, but that's not true. her ideals are just starscream.

tacking onto that, i do think she's a genuinely very well-informed person, politically speaking. like she's read robo marx, lol. she's aware of why imperialism would, hypothetically speaking, be bad. she just disagrees because imperialism is in this moment benefiting her.

and to finish that thought that's why she stays in positions that are objectively terrible for her, like the decepticons. she's facing a torrent of misogynistic abuse, but she's afforded a genuinely very beneficial position as the SiC and is convinced that she will one day be Decepticon leader. this, to her, is much preferable than being a normal Autobot.

OK now that i've devoted 3 bullet points to the basics of the character. i'm always having to remind myself that she does not apologize...! literally so often i go to write a normal interaction with her and then remember midway through that she's very mean and petty and does not interact with people in a way i consider to be normal. lol

she doesn't "get" art. she understands that it's very important, which is why she commissions art for propaganda purposes, but her response to any kind of genuine emotional expression is a profound sense of embarrassment.

NOBODY CONTROLS BLACKARACHNIA...! her autonomy is the #1 most important thing to her. she will go to great extremes to preserve it. that's the source of much of her initial backstabbing tendencies, IMO--the only way to guarantee any sort of freedom within the predacons is to be on top. (that's also why i interpret her as intersex + transgender. transgender person seeing a story about autonomy:)

what if you knew a woman who wouldn't stop doing bits. she is genuinely perpetually doing some sort of gimmick or performance, whether it's an attempt at manipulation or roleplaying with her boyfriend. so there's some difficulties with emotional expression there but also she would looooove couples' costumes. and the ren faire.

she genuinely does not like people very much though. she generally assumes everyone she meets is an idiot who should be treated as such, and, well... most of the people she's met are idiots...

oh and she is like, perpetually the only woman in the room. she's extremely defined by the misogyny she's faced and even if there are literally other women around that's still a chip she'll (understandably!) be carrying on her shoulder.

i dont know... i don't write blackarachnia very often... Oh things that are essential to depicting the character. um she is often seemingly mean or cruel to silverbolt (boyfriend) but that's part of their roleplay dynamic LOL. she likes him. she likes him a lot.

god honestly i miss being involved in fandom enough to get insane asks. kind of. i mostly just miss being involved in fandom lmao

the worldbuilding in the second half of the initial idw run was absolutely stunning. It felt so alien and yet so real, I'm constantly sad about how it ended up pretty much wasted.
