“Ye really dinnae have to do this, ye ken,” Callum had said for maybe the fifth time within the last hour. It had made no difference how many times he’d said it though. Try as he may, there was no stopping the princess of Arendelle from forcing him out that evening. Her insistence on taking him out for a dinner as a thank you for watching her pet snake over the break made little sense to him - it was a favor, and favors were not meant to be rewarded, first of all, but also it wasn’t like it was a huge sacrifice for him. They didn’t celebrate Thanksgiving in Scotland, and it wasn’t like the thought of going home had passed his mind. It made sense to step in and take care of Lena’s snake while she’d been away, what else was he meant to do with himself for a few days of no classes and hardly anyone around to bother him? It had almost felt like watching the snake was a far better alternative than any sort of human interaction. “Honestly, it was no big deal, Lena. I think I enjoyed it more than hangin’ around the ‘best that Auradon society has to offer’. He’s a better listener, anyway.”
He let out a sigh, carefully dodging people as they walked along. It was an oddly busy night in Auradon City, and he’d silently hoped the restaurant was too crowded to seat them. They were only about a block away from Tony’s, so there was little reason to keep convincing her of how highly unnecessary this dinner was. Still, the thought of being turned away seemed promising. Maybe he could suggest the snuggly duckling instead, just a quick pint and then they were off. The idea had quickly vanished when he’d caught sight of Tony’s up ahead - busy, but clearly not as full as he’d expected. One glance through the wide window out front and he could see a couple booths hadn’t been occupied just yet, and even a couple of the tables by the window were still empty. He had almost opened his mouth one more time, but the scent of Italian cuisine wafted through the air towards him and a sudden rumble in his stomach had silenced the objections rising in his throat. So maybe some pizza sounded pretty good around now, who was he to complain?
Quickly seated at the booth that Cal usually occupied - typically by himself - whenever he’d come by the restaurant, the two students had put in drink orders before being left alone. It wasn’t a common sight to see Callum Fraser-DunBroch out with others, but if he was ever seen in the company of others it was typically with Lena. She was, as of yet, one of the few truly tolerable people to the reclusive Scot, and therefore one of the only people he could be around for more than a few minutes without losing his mind. He wasn’t as nervous around her as he was with other people, wasn’t as unsure of himself. She may have been his only genuine friend really. To some that ought to have seemed pathetic, but to Cal it was great - Lena wasn’t the worst person to hang around, not in his book anyway.
Grabbing one of the laminated menus, not hiding the small smile of pride since he had been the one to design it for one of his recent freelance jobs, Callum glanced over the menu as if he were surveying it. There was no point, Joe and Tony knew Cal well enough by now to know exactly what he wanted. He was becoming a real regular around the food places in town. “So... How was yer weekend back in Arendelle? Hopefully nae too eventful, aye? I can confirm that absolutely nothin’ happened here in AC. I actually think the whole city shut down for the holiday. It was like a ghost town around here.” @aleenaandersen
