Our Interview With The Dev Team Below The Cut!
Introduce yourself!
*Hello! I'm TOBI, all uppercase usually, I'm the head developer of the rpg horror game AURORA and the head of the game creation team, "KUEBIKO GAMES". I have not made any full games that are available to the public before this one, however, I have been in the RPG maker fandom for about 4 years.
What is your project about? What inspired you to create your game initially?
*'AURORA', to put it simply, is a psychological horror game about a girl Aurora, who's been in a coma since she was very young, getting up out of her hospital bed and walking about the land of her loosely fairytale-based dreams. Or at least, that's the basic synopsis, I don't want to spoil anything but it's actually one of the most complicated games I've ever written for. I've been interested in making games since I was very young, but one day I found the game 'Pocket Mirror'. Its concept seemed so pretty and aesthetically pleasing, among other things, and I was just inspired to look into making games myself.
How long have you been working on your project?
*About 1-2 years. Almost two by the end of this one. So not too long.
Did any other games or media influence aspects of your project? *
*Yes! So many! Yume-Nikki, IB, Alicemare and Pocket Mirror aesthetically.
Have you come across any challenges during development? How have you overcome or worked around them?
*Well, near the end of summer this year our lead graphics artist, Fran-Kha, left us. But we've found a brand new equally talented artist for the game Chari. I beleive that was our biggest hurdle.
Have any aspects of your project changed over time? How does your current project differ from your initial concept?
*Oh God, it's practically entirely different than what it was initially. I can't say much about the plot changes due to spoiler reason, but graphics have changed from what they were initially and two characters have been added to further plot development.
What was your team like at the beginning? How did people join the team?
*It was just me in the beginning. But after looking for team members to initially just help on a contest game (that is actually still in progress, I'm just looking for a new pixel artist and I'm not planning on working until after AURORA is finished), I acquired a whole game-making team.
What was the best part of developing the game?
*Well, for me it's expressing your ideas in such a unique platform.
Looking back now, is there anything that regret/wish you had done differently?
*Nothing really, but the graphics in the old demo still irk me.
Once you finish your project, do you plan to explore game's universe and characters further in subsequent projects, or leave it as-is?
*I don't plan to initially unless it's needed. For me, a game like this one feels like would be ruined if there we're multiple games after it.
What do you look most forward to upon/after release?
*I look forward to the reaction of the RPGM horror community and to the creation of a small community dedicated to the game hopefully. I've always dreamed of making something that eventually has it's own fandom, even if that fandom ends up being just my team and I.
Question from last month's featured dev: Did you have any hiatuses? How did you get your game back on track?
Yes! We've been on somewhat of a 'hiatus' for the past months due to some scheduling errors but I'm currently working on that and we should he right on track very soon.
Do you have any advice for upcoming devs?
Don't be afraid to make whatever you want! If you think making a game would be interesting, do it! I know that's cliché, but it's what I did and it's gone so much better than I have ever expected! If you don't know how to do certain things, work with someone else, make a team if you have to. You can work through anything, but nothing will happen if you don't try!
We mods would like to thank TOBI for agreeing to our interview! We believe that featuring the developer and their creative process is just as important as featuring the final product. Hopefully this Q&A segment has been an entertaining and insightful experience for everyone involved!
Remember to check out Aurora if you haven’t already! See you next month!
HELLO EVERYONE!! Miki here ^O^/ Hope you’ve all been well <3
I’ve been meaning to submit something on here for a while but I kept forgetting adfshj o)-<< Right now I’m in the middle of my finals oop but I thought I should post before I forget again
This is basically a step by step process of how I made the first sprites for Aurora (which was Halloween last year oops).
As your dreams may or may not come true, I can promise you one thing Aurora, your friend will not wake up upon your kiss...he will only fulfill you with torments! @project-wakeupandsmelltheposies ^o^
Welcome to Aurora, an upcoming RPG Maker Horror Game made in VX Ace by @project-wakeupandsmelltheposies.
This video shows all of the demo that can be found along with the demo endings that you can reach. I was not aware that the project team put out a demo for people to download until I looked through on rpgmaker so a big apology from me for not putting out this video sooner. I only thought due to the April Fools...download that the demo was coming out at some time afterwards. Go ahead and play the demo it is quite a sweet little adventure with Aurora and Oliver.
THANK YOU ALL FOR 1000+!!! (I feel like almost every post recently has been thanking you guys oh jeez)
I just wanted to thank everyone again for the support! I haven’t checked the follower count in awhile, and two days ago I looked back at it, and we already had 1000+ followers!!! I don’t know about you, but I’ve never had that many followers on anything! And this is just insane!
So In return I’m releasing the final main character of the game! (along with one more present announced at the end!)
Her name is “Jose” she’s the last of the major characters in game, and in all honesty my wife.
A little bit of information of “Jose”
1. Her appearance in her bust and ref sheet, is only her appearance in the strange world Aurora is in, in reality she looks much different
2. She’s my fluffy wife
and that’s all I can say!
(Also btw the second image was an adorable sketch made by our new illustrator Chari)
Anyway, now for the 2nd 1000+ follower present!
as well as Jose being released, I’m also going to be doing my our stream!
I’ll be making maps, drawing some aurora prints and illustrations, having my mic on so I can talk to you guys (maybe even some skype calling with the other members!), and perhaps even programming a bit of the new demo, so I hope those of you who are interested can come!
Date/Time: August 3rd 2016 4:20 PM (PST Time)

And that’s all the announcements I have! Thanks you all for your support ; V ; and we’re all just so happy and surprised even by the amount of following and support of the game!
Hi everyone! This is the team’s pixel artist Miki o//
Honestly I have so much to say I don’t even know where to begin. I’ve been part of Aurora for more than a year now, it’s amazing how time flies. Over that time, I’ve really gotten to know members of the team, and formed lovely friendships with people such as Fran-kha and Tobi. It makes me happy to say we’re a group that’s been brought together by doing things we love - art, music, story-making and programming. This project is more than just a game to us, it’s a great deal of effort and love (at least I feel that way ///).
It was saddening to have to see Fran leave, and later see some of the messages directed to Tobi as well. But with that I saw the incredible amount of support from you all, and it was incredibly heartwarming (the team were gushing over the kind messages you precious cinnamon rolls). We’re trying our best to work on Aurora in our free time, and I’m lending a hand with managing the blog and posting updates so we can avoid any incidents with concerned followers. (So expect a few pixel sneak peeks and trash doodles maybe?)
I hope this post and doodle can be a small apology for our inactivity, but more than anything, a big, big thank you to all of you out there who have been following and supporting Aurora. It really means a lot to us!
It's been a bit of a ride this year! The (now old) demo for Aurora was released over the summer, and then this blog was made and it was never expected that we would get so much support in just a few short months! Thank you all so much, we're so glad over the year we could share what we have with you, and hope over the next coming year we can make you just as happy as you have made us! Thank you for a wonderful year and, no matter what you do and/or don't celebrate or how you decide to do so, Happy Holidays! - The Aurora Dev team
