This is something which I would definitely be interested in doing further on into my course. Sadly I haven't managed to do so this time round but the images amaze me.
To paint with light, you should follow these few steps:
- As you'll be working with a very slow shutter speed, you will need to make sure your camera is secured onto a tripod as otherwise the effect may not come out as you would like.
- Make sure your subject and those who are doing the 'painting' are in the correct place and know what they are doing. As soon as you turn the lights off, you will hopefully be in complete darkness.
- As soon as you press the shutter button, the light sources which are being used are the only objects to emit the light and show onto the image. Now, you are free to do what you want with the light sources. You could use a torch to draw around the subject, or disco lights to create a light effect. (Ideally try out a few different exposure times or light sources so that you know what is best for the image you wanted to create.

I love the dynamic of this image, everything about it seems to draw you in completely. The look and stance of the woman makes the picture seem slightly eerie, as something bad is about to happen or has happened. This could be why the lighting is red, to symbolise the blood and horror of a bad situation. I like how she stands out from everything, the contrast of her skin, the black clothing and the red just creates it all beautifully. I like how they have made the light seem like rain pouring, it adds a dramatic scene to the image.
This image caught my eye immediately, just because it shows that even in black and white, painting with light can still have an amazing affect. I like the composition of the image as the shadow creates a darkness around the eye, which kind of adds a bit of darkness in the image. I find it interesting that neither eyes are completely visible and they are both contrasted against each other. One is almost in complete shadow, with more make-up used (eye-liner below the eye) whereas the other is covered with light. It's like the image is showing that there is a dark and light side of everyone.
What caught my eye with this image is that it is really pretty. I don't know whether it's the Princess side of me trying to reach out but it does feel like a fairytale image. The lights are dotted round her, allowing the subject to be the centre of attention.
