Don’t box me in.

leaves

I am a study in pathetic spasticity

I am alive though i have ceased to live

My heart moans & my head screams

As the further i go the further away i get

I am not here though i am not there neither

I am two legs two arms & a trunk

Memory is becoming a fading convolution of the senses

As i struggle to find reason for any of this

Leaves depart the security of their branches & dance off down the street

They are like people that i used to know women that used to love me

They have no use for trees nor sentimentality

They have no use for me

I have no use for me

I am a study in dissipation a person-less parade of senseless depravity

There are no reasons lingering there

Here is a spasmodic knee-jerk though there is no reaction

I lay flat

I close my eyes

I wait

I am not dead

Though i’m floating through

A life

In this darkness i recall

That life is

Some times beautiful

“DON’T TRY”

so, you wanna be a writer-

                                                                              ...when ‘they’ call you “crazy”-

take it as the supreme confirmation that you’re on the right track

                  ...when ex-lovers start to sound slightly nasal & less than provincial-

know that you made the right decision

                                                                           ...when ‘friends’ give-up on you-

take it as a sign Darwin was right

                                                                    ...when the ‘applause’ sign lights up-

don’t clap- it’s not fuckin’ funnee

                                                                   ...when the sirens of emergency echo through the streets-

hear the music of life stirring

                                                                                                ...et cetera et cetera...

...et cetera

           ...when the mother looks at you with vacant eyes that quickly fill to hate-

smile a knowing smile

                                           ...& when the father hears your work & says nothing-

you are a writer.
