Rhianna Barreau was declared missing on October 7th 1992 In Morphett Vale, South Australia. She was 12 years old at the time.
She was on school holidays, and was making plans to buy her American pen pal a Christmas card from her local news agency. There was a bus strike that day, meaning she would have to walk. Rhianna’s mother Paula, left the house at 8:30am that morning for work, it was the last time that she saw her daughter. After Ms Barraeu left for work, it seemed that Rhianna stayed in the home until approximately 10:30am. Shortly after this time there was a positive sighting of Rhianna walking towards a Reynella news agency.
Records show that she purchased the Christmas card at 11:19am at the Reynella shopping centre. The last confirmed sighting was at 12:30, where Rhianna was seen walking down highway drive between the Morphett Vale high school, and the Stanvac Primary School.
Rhianna returned home with the Christmas card at an unknown time, and what happened after that is a mystery. Miss barraeu can remember arriving home at 4:10pm that day and said everything appeared normal.
The door was locked as usual, the card Rhianna had bought earlier was still in its wrapper on the table, and the television still on...but no sign of her daughter.
None of her personal items were missing, so it was believed that had she left on her own accord, she hadn’t planned to go for long.
After asking neighbours if they had seen her and frantically checking the neighbourhood, Miss Barraeu notified the police at 6pm that night.
After years of no new leads or answers, the police released new information in 2015 stating that Rhianna has been sighted at a junction 500 metres away from the family home, only 10 minutes before her mother returned home from work. She was alone, but — according to her official Missing Persons report — “Suspicious activities occurred at Acre Avenue, David Terrace, Highwray Avenue, and Crittenden Avenue Morphett Vale.”
What these suspicious activities are were not explained in detail.
