Residency Visit. AiR Antwerpen. Belgium > A color-visit "AiR Traces: Austruweel" (12.09. 2014)

Austruweel is the old name of a polder village in the harbor area of Antwerp, where AiR Antwerp is located. The residency is in an area on the verge of transition, at the outskirt of the city: a liminal zone between the city and the harbor, a little ghostly. In this industrial landscape made of large containers and storage buildings, the old look-keeper's house (now the residency) and the few small brick houses scattered around are like old bastions reminding the size and the rhythms of a less globalized Europe. 

Austruweel gave the title to the group show I visited last September "AiR Traces: Austruweel" where fourteen Belgian and international artists -all former residents - were invited to conceive a new work from the traces found in the area. After some time, what I remember of that visit follows mostly a color and its shades. Blue turned this site-specific exhibition into a color driven experience.
