Learning New Things

Joel walked into the the stables looking at the board. He didn’t recognize the name attached to him, “Hey Tommy...who’s this Jedi?”
He chuckled a little, “Are we fighting the Empire now?”
“Ha ha laugh it up chuckles, I’m sure she’s heard’em all.” Tommy told him smirking a little, “In fact why don’t you get’em out of yer system now so you can actually be nice to the new lady.”
“I’ll keep’em to a minimum.” Joel chuckled again as he picked up a few supplies, “How new is new?”
“If you’re asking how green she is, well, she knows enough to have found her way here.” Tommy told him as they walked over toward the horses, “I was hoping you could show her the ropes, since you’re the one who set the bar so high for everyone.”
“It’s high so we keep this place safe.” Joel rolled his eyes a little as he took the reigns of his horse from the stable hand thanking him, “Tommy, are you sure we should be letting such a new face out on the routes this early?”
“Yeah, I know what you mean, but...I got good feeling about her, you’re the one who’s supposed to tell me if I’m right.” Tommy slapped him on the shoulder, “Come one, I’m gonna introduce ya to her.”
Joel stood there watching Tommy walk toward this new face. He was always a little wary of new comers. You just didn’t know enough to feel like you could trust them. He sighed a little before he felt his horse nudge him in the back.
“Oh you too, huh?” Joel smiled at him giving him a good rub under the chin, “Alright...I suppose you’re right, we should give’um a chance.”
Joel walked over toward them as Tommy looked back at him, “This Joel, my brother. He’s gonna show you the ropes.”
Joel looked at her before holding on his hand. He wasn’t exactly friendly, but he was completely cold either, “Joel Miller...glad you could join us.”
