When commenting on fics...
I feel like this shouldn’t have to be said, but with the way younger readers treat fics nowadays, I feel compelled to say it.
I will say this once, and only once. Be mindful of what you post as comments on peoples' stories or fics. Sometimes, the things that you find funny or ironic may not necessarily be funny to the person writing. On top of that, if you're downplaying epic, emotional, or major moments in a fic, it can be really demotivating to that writer to see those sorts of things. That writer may have put their heart and soul into that moment in their fic; coming in and effectively mocking the depth of the scene is insensitive, unappreciative, and deplorable behaviour. If the scene is intended to be funny, laugh about it. If it’s supposed to be serious, treat it as so. Show the author the respect they deserve for their work.
Personally, I don't allow these kinds of comments on my fic. It starts to feel like my work is being mocked and not being taken as seriously as it should be, which is not what I am going through for my works. I won't hesitate to remove them or mute people who do this.
Don't get me wrong--I appreciate comments on my fics, I really do. But I don't appreciate moments of my writing that are intended to be important being completely downplayed or treated as a joke or being made fun of in the comments.
Keep your comments kind and motivating, not mocking.
