During breaks from daily workouts over a hot keyboard as I endeavor to master the art of writing with instant grabability, I've started reading a new book. The beginning of my story....
Does anyone else ever have a really clear idea of what they want to say or write, then find that when they actually put those words down it makes no sense and definitely doesn’t have the impact you felt when it was in your head? I’ve had a few of these moments trying to get my story right, and it dawned on me today that nobody except me knew what any of it looked like in my head anyway! So no-one except me knows if it comes out slightly differently, or if a character’s hair changes. That’s what I’m really enjoying about writing - it’s mine until I’m ready to share it, so there is no wrong answer!
The more time i’m spending trying to make my story come to life on a page for other people, the more I’ve thought about why I read so much and what it is that I enjoy about getting stuck into a new story. I have come to realise that the reason I love a good book so much is that someone has used ordinary, mundane words that we use every day in such a way that they have created a completely new world for us to escape into.
I love the smell of a new book, the feel of the first crack of the spine and the shiny feeling of a new page. But the BEST bit about reading a new book is the feelings it bring out in me, the fantasy it inspires in me and the total distraction it gives me from the real world. Whether it’s the magical world of Harry Potter and his life at Hogwarts, the adventures of the endless supernaturals that call The Shade home or the raw energy from travelling around with a Motorcycle Club, a well-written book doesn’t just give you something to read about, it gives you an introduction into a world that you couldn’t even dream up. THAT is why I love reading so much, and why I have finally decided to try and put some of those words together and create a story that other people can get lost in and enjoy.
I have no idea if the book I’m writing will be anywhere near good enough to share with other people, but the excitement I feel when I’m writing about the characters, their lives, their lies and their journeys is something I’ve never experienced before and I really hope I can pour that excitement into every word I write. I’d like to think it will be out there one day (in the not too distant future) so others can find the buzz and excitement that I feel whenever I think of a look, a comment or an interaction that makes me think “YES!”.
I’m going to be blogging along the way to my first book, sharing my excitement and my difficulties along the way. It may be that all I ever do is manage to write a story for me to keep and show my nearest and dearest, or it may be that I go worldwide (too optimistic?!). The most important thing, is I’m doing this for ME. I’m writing the story I want to, with the characters I’m beginning to love and the dark, twisted, lust-filled relationships I’m going to dream about.
If you have writing tips or tricks feel free to pop them in the comments - all guidance is appreciated!
Almost all good writing begins with terrible first efforts
Anne Lamott
So with the aim of producing a piece of good writing, I’m throwing myself into the first effort of my first ever book. I have some incredible friends who are amazing sources of support and guidance and I have my laptop. That’s all you need to write isn’t it?
Amethyste is a Denature and a water goddess because of that she could sense the storm, and find her way to Azalea. She is a goddess of all the waters but lets the family who adopted her watch the oceans as she feels its too salty for her. She the prefers rippling rivers. Her bright green eyes and long black hair are only a small part of her beautiful characteristic's. Her mermaid tail of greens, golds and blue hues comes and goes as she wishes, it's one of her elements of being a Denature. Every Denature has their own unique qualities. She is in love with one of the guardians named Noelle.
Azalea with her long rose gold hair and golden brown eyes. You’d never guess she holds the storm inside her that could destroy everything around her for miles. Her past riddled with broken trust from burned friendships and abuse that ruled her life. Classifies herself as easily forgotten. Clinging to the last burning strand of her past as her best friend abandons her at a time she was needed most. Leaving nothing but lasting harsh judgments where she once stood. She visits the bubbling river near her home often to think. It's where she meets someone who knows how to gain control of the storm. Showing her an island that will soon become her salvation.
