What if the final events of Authority Revolution (In which Midnighter is revealed to have been tricked and infected by Henry Bendix to turn against the team) actually coincide with Apollo finally letting go and making peace with being on his own. So when Midnighter returns to the team, he tells him that he just... Wants to be friends.
BUT WAIT, STAY WITH ME
So then Midnighter enacts a contingency plan that his computer brain mapped out the moment he left the team, on the improbable odds that he might have a chance to get Apollo back. It is a plan to WOO APOLLO. LIKE STRAIGHT UP SENDING HIM FLOWERS AND ASKING IF HE WOULD LIKE TO GET COFFEE AND OH HE HAS 2 TICKETS TO SEE THE NEWEST JENNIFER ANNISTON MOVIE, DOES HE WANNA GO?
And Apollo, who has never been courted in his existing memories.... Doesn't know what to do?? He didn't expect this level of effort, didn't even realize he could fall in love with Mid in a whole new way.
I mean, I'm just thinking out loud.
