Learning Apps Promote Safety for Children with ASD
It has been evident in recent news that certain technology has been very beneficial in helping children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) develop various skills, and learn how to communicate. Recently, a new game has been developed which helps teach children about the people that they are likely to encounter in their communities, as well as cultivate important safety skills.
Camp Discovery, the free learning app developed by the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD), released the Community Helpers game to teach children about the “helpers” they are likely to see and interact with in their neighborhoods, such as doctors, teachers, police officers, and firefighters. Players are taught to identify the various helpers by their titles, by what they do, and what location they might be found in. “While we often teach children to avoid strangers, it is important to teach them about the people that are there to assist them in the community”, states Dennis Dixon, Ph.D., Chief Strategy Officer of CARD. Another tool that has helped Autistic children and teens develop their communication skills is Autism Expressed. This interactive learning system teaches the digital skills that have become essential in communicating in today’s world. Medical Board Certification
We've recently been asked by several individuals across the pond (namely Europe and in Australia) whether our app is medically certified.
The short answer is not yet.
The long answer is that we are meeting with individuals interested in helping us put Aeir Talk through a series of A/B tests with other apps and see how effective it is in assisting communication.
This of course, takes quite a bit of time. We will be working in the future to keep all of you updated on the progress of this lengthy process, but do know that we are working on it, and look forward to the positive results it will yield.

Three Months
Aeir Talk has been on the iTunes store for three months now, and it seems like it has been longer and shorter than that at the same time. Longer, because of all of the work that has gone into talking about the app publicly, writing copy for the site, re-writing copy for the site, and now making You Tube videos for tutorials on the app, answering questions via email and more (Facebook timeline is mandatory on our Facebook page?!). :)
It has been short because despite all of that work and more, it has not seemed like work at all. Just talking to people about the app that I run into during my day job at Best Buy, and seeing how excited they are about it and just being appreciative of having an app that is affordable yet effective just makes my day. People are always saying, "I know someone who could use this," or "wow thats really cool! Are you rich yet? :)" I am rich, not monetarily, but in affection for each and every comment that I receive about the app. Every appreciative Tweet or comment or email that I receive makes my soul richer. I am personally blown away to see where this little app is going.
In three months, we have had hits onto Aeirtalk.com from just about all of the known world. This includes places like Kazakhstan, and Estonia, Bulgaria, Greece, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Guam, the UK, Ireland, Albania, and the list goes on and on. Aeir Talk is not only helping people here in the US, but so many other places around the world, places that didn't have access to an app that could be in their own language, an app that has faces and voices familiar to their children. For that I am very proud.
It's only been a few months! And more great things are to come. Most apps you can buy and just walk away. But with Aeir Talk, we want to be a place where you want to come back to see what others are doing with the app, and to be a resource as well.
So in the coming months you will see more blog posts from us, more information on not only the app but in Autism and Education and Technology. This blog will be a place of information for you, our customer and curious passer by. So we hope that you can appreciate that, and just know that we will continue to work hard for you, and hopefully make this blog a daily read for you.

Exciting Developments
Hi everyone! This is Joe Hill, and I wanted to share with you some things that have been happening here in the last few weeks.
Both Aeir Talk and the story of its creation have been featured on blogs (one great post here) and on a couple of new stories on our local affiliates of NBC, ABC, and CBS. I was even featured in an article for Inc on their webpage about being an "Accidental Entrepreneur."
All of this is really wonderful press and we are greatly appreciative of it. Aeir Talk is only several weeks old, and we are now being recognized globally, no I'm serious, globally. Our app has been purchased in the UK, Canada, Australia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, India, Mexico, and the list is getting bigger.
So why all of this fanfare? I believe it is the combination of two things. One is the story of the inspiration of the app, and that is of my two boys Deacon and Gunnar, who have both been diagnosed with Autism. They are both awesome, everyone loves them and they are great motivators in keeping me going throughout this whole process of building Aeir Talk.
The other contributor is the app itself. That might seem simple but it is true and just as poignant as the story of the apps genesis. I believe that Aeir Talk should be the app for Autism and Special Needs learning.
Yes there are other good apps out there, and yes I am biased, but there are no other apps like it and it looks better, is easier to use and accomplishes more for its price point than any other "autism apps". I think that with some time and some additional iTunes reviews, we will be known not as the app developed by a father of two boys with autism (even though it was and I'm happy for the attention) but as the best app to teach children new words through a unique interface.
Aeir Talk will change the face of special needs and education apps for the better. We'll continue to update you on our progress. Hopefully you have purchased the app and love it and are spreading the word about us as well. Let us know what you think.
