One thing knowing I'm probably on the spectrum has done for me is allowed me to be so much gentler on myself. I don't try so hard not to shift from foot to foot when I'm in line or at a crosswalk. I forgive myself when I suddenly have to get out of a place. I don't try to suffer through it when a sound is so overwhelming ("messing with my head" is what I usually say- it offends people less) I want to run or cry for hours.
