Soup's character arc is actually about this! At the start of the series, they're very detached, mean to really everyone but Stan, who they're close with, and Soos, who no one should be mean to. By the start of season 2, Soup is close to their cousins, Candy, and Grenda. But then Ford comes back, and thinking no one can be trusted, Soup becomes really detached for a few episodes, slowly warming up again by the end of summer
