Here is the list of scientific terms I learned of phobias I am currently aware of having or have had at some point in my life:
Agateophobia: Fear of insanity.
Aichmophobia: Fear of needles.
Ankylophobia: Fear of immobility of joints.
Arachnephobia: Fear of spiders.
Automatonaphobia: Fear of dolls (also pediophobia).
Claustrophobia: Fear of enclosed places.
Eisoptrophobia: Fear of mirrors.
Entomophobia: Fear of insects.
Merinthophobia: Fear of being bound/restrained.
Nosocomephobia: Fear of hospitals.
Pharmacophobia: Fear of taking medicine.
Taphephobia: Fear of being buried alive.
Trypanophobia: Fear of injections.
Gephyrophobia: Fear of bridges.
Insomniphobia: Fear of insomnia.
A lot of these are related to one another. The fear of injections and of needles is part of the fear of taking medicine. The fear of immobility of joints, enclosed places, being buried alive, and being bound or restrained are also connected. As are the fear of insects, spiders being the main source of my anxiety in that category.
16 phobias. I must say, I was not expecting that number when I started this. I want to be able to consider myself a grounded person. Just because I can now put a name on these anxieties doesn't really bring me any closer to either discovering their purpose or dispersing of them. Hopefully I can touch base on each of them at some point during this project.
