The Wanderer
The wanderer entered the foliage-devoid forest which gave rise to a flash of insight. Dressed modestly, naked compared with today's standard, a realization emerged. She had become like the trees.
In days gone by, the wanderer could be seen wearing luxurious linens. The styles she once chose provided protection from the elements; a personal canopy ready to catch the supercharged rays of the sun. Like the trees, she let them fall.
Hearing the crunch of dead leaves underfoot, she directed her gaze upward toward limbs and next to the tips of branches where these same leaves once pulsed with watery-life. She pictured them there. Tracing in reverse her eyes settled on a tree-trunk. This is when it hit her hard and fast. A sensation in the form of warmth enveloping her frame, forming a glowing aegis around her.
Her thought process in this moment looked something like this.
Now I see, the dying leaves get all the attention because they're a quick, pretty flare for the eyes. With Autumn comes nonstop talk of the outward beauty in the form of changing colors. Nevertheless, I see an even more awesome beauty in the energy that these trees have retracted and focused inward.
Vibrating with life internally while appearing dead on the outside, the trees and the wanderer stood sharing similarities.

Goodnight
You saw city women as noxious gas and stomach acid. As quick-click steps and eyes averted. You saw temperate bodies beneath fall trends, mocked their only bitter warmth as black coffee.
But you sleep through midnight walks, intimate contact (feet to concrete) sidewalk cracks as welcome friends. Your knowledge of the lamp-glow-looks shared with shadows is nothing. The magic of four eyes on dim, empty streets. Far-off companions, blurred seductresses.
You’ll never covet things you’ll never see.

THE LAST GOOD EVENINGS
If death is warm cider, then let it come; winter approaches, but we can hold out just a little longer, just a little.
And the sun peeks out only a little, waiting for the low clouds to block it out. I will give myself up when the snows come.
But on this chilled night, let's sip a little vin chaud, ignoring when the cold comes, instead, drinking until the wine is out.
The leaves come down, out of shivered trees, waiting to sleep for a little while.
