Doodle - Patlabor - Type Zero Everyone's got their stories that are their happy place - the ones you keep coming back to because they just resonate. I have several, from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine to Frasier to.... well, this one. Patlabor. Especially the movies. It's the anime I never think about much until I think about it just once, even briefly, and then it's all I can think about for a solid week. It's such an oddball for me, too, because of why I love it. Yes, it's got a smart mystery plot and a whole swack of politics and gorgeous visuals. It's got a fantastic cast of endearing characters, some of whom are beloved to me, especially Noa. But what really sets off my magpie-brained "OOH PRETTY" reaction about Patlabor is the robot designs. And see, I never care about machines. Machines? Generally: boring. Kinda scary! Overall, not my thing. I like planes, sure, but it's not the same - aviation is neat as a principle to me. The engineering behind flight is fascinating. But these police mecha, of all things? They just look really, really nice. This time around, I honestly think it entirely comes down to the ears. I actually like the AV-98 Ingram better than the AV-X0 here because it's asymmetrical and that just adds even more charm, but... while doodling mister scary sharp Type Zero prototype face I realized that really and truly, that had to be it. The ears. And when I look at my Tarsin characters and my favorite pointy-eared vampires and Bently the Bat and all the rest, it only makes sense. Give a robot big honkin' "ears" and of course I'm gonna think it's pretty. Jeez. **——————————————** Patreon || Buy Me A Coffee
