🐟*Avakh approaches in silence, calm steps across the ground. When she gets closer, she crouches down to Pom Pom’s height. Her expression remains indifferent, but there is something more there contained concern, barely hidden beneath constant exhaustion.*
Hello…
*her voice is low.*
I know you and Kurbis made up.
*She pauses for a moment, carefully choosing her words.*
I just came to understand what happened.
*Her green eye fixes on him, direct, without aggression.*
He was inconsolable… and ran away from the Carriage.
*Her fingers tighten slightly, as if she’s reliving the scene for a second.*
I couldn’t calm him down.
*She exhales more heavily than before.*
And I need to understand why.
*Avakh looks away for a moment, as if admitting it makes her uncomfortable.*
I’m not angry…
*A short pause.*
Okay… I won’t lie. I am a little.
But I’m not going to hold onto that now that everything is fine.
*She looks back at Pom Pom.*
I just want to know what happened… so that if it happens again, I know what to do.
Pom Pom keeps his head lowered, ears slightly pinned back as he speaks—voice quiet, careful, like he’s already bracing for impact.
“…Miss Ava.”
A small pause.
“I knew you were gonna be mad about what happened between me and Kurbis.”
His paws shift uneasily at his sides.
“So it’s okay to be upset at me.”
He doesn’t look up yet, like he’s accepting whatever reaction might come.
“…for what happened… Kurbis came to me acting strange.”
His tone tightens slightly, but he stays controlled.
“Like someone was pretending to be him.”
A beat.
“He was smiling all funny… and kept trying to act happy for me.”
His tail flicks once, then stills.
“I knew I was going a bit far when I yelled…” he admits, quieter now. “But I needed to protect Mother. In case it was something bad.”
Finally, his voice softens just a fraction—confused more than defensive.
“Even if it upset me… and confused me.”
He goes quiet after that, still not lifting his gaze, waiting—tension held in his small frame like he’s ready to accept whatever judgment comes next.
