JULY EVENT: TANABATA FESTIVAL
Fire Nation & Water Tribe joint Festival
The Tanabata Festival originates from both the Fire Nation and Water Tribe. In the early era of time, there was Orihime and Hikoboshi, the lovers from different worlds. Orihime was a daughter forged by fire and Hikoboshi was born from the sea. Orihime made the suns’ rays that touched the planet while Hikoboshi calmed seas from all disturbances and turbulence. One day, Orihime, growing tired of simply carrying out her duties, visited the seas to find Hikoboshi. Despite their vast difference, their love was stronger than the heat of the sun or the depths of the oceans. The duo fell in love and was wedded by the sun and ocean.
However, both ended up neglecting their duties. The sun and ocean, angry at Orihime and Hikoboshi, decided to punish them. They were separated by being sent to the opposite ends of the Milky Way. But the punishment was not well-received as both lovers only cried and could not properly fulfill their duties. To resolve their sorrows, the sun and ocean decided to let them meet each year on the seventh day of the seventh month.
The Tanabata Festival is celebrated not only for lovers, but also for families. It is a joint festival between the Fire Nation and the Water Tribe. They pray for lovers, family, good fortune, etc.
HOW TO CELEBRATE THE EVENT:
It is the day where the Fire Nation and Water Tribe come together in harmony. In the Fire Nation, they put on Firework displays to represent the sun in honor of Orihime. The Water Tribe hang up paper lanterns on the ocean and calm seas to extol Hikoboshi. Both nations put up food stalls, have parades, and host weaving contests during the day. The weaving contest consists of making a cloth that features both fire and water.
Both nations also put up bamboos and write on a Tanzaku paper their wishes.
TASK:
