He falls straight onto his butt- he hadn’t expected to come upon somebody else so suddenly- the last two dimensions he’d passed through were devoid of any living thing- in fact he is surprised he hadn’t been driven completely mad.
With a little gasp his hand creeps towards his gun for protection. He can’t determine whether she is friend or foe. But his paranoia leads him into making the assumption-
She’s one of Bill’s henchmen!
‘Are you one of them?! Do you work for him?!’
‘You’ll never take me in alive!’
