fortuitous encounter || averygilbert
Damon had decided to get some fresh air, which was very unlike himself. However, it was still better than sitting in the boarding house and listening to Stefan's silent brooding. He couldn't even push him to talk more than a sentence and even though the older Salvatore wouldn't admit it, he was frustrated by his little brother's persistence on this matter.
It was too early to grab a drink at the Mystic Grill, given that sunset was hours away and the amount of people the vampire considered to be even remotely interesting were usually not to be found in the little restaurant at this hour of the day.
As he carried on walking into no particular direction, nor having a destination in mind, he spotted a familiar figure sitting on a bench not far from him. His lips curved into a smirk as he recognized her to be none other than Elena's and Jeremy's sister, whom he had been told to keep away from. He had followed that wish up to now, for the most part, as Avery didn't interest him further, as long as he was entertained.
However, today she seemed like a perfect distraction to him and so he approached the girl that was reading a book and took the seat next to her, casually putting his arm onto the armrest behind her back. "What's that book you're reading?", he asked and broke the silence that had previously surrounded her, before he snatched the thumbed novel out of her hands.
