Cine: A Very Serious Person (2006)

Gil (el debutante P.J. Verhoest) y su abuela (Polly Bergen) solo se tienen a sí mismos. La dama no pasa por buenos momentos de salud, por lo que debe ser asistida por Betty (Dana Ivey), situación a la que se añade la presencia de Jan (Charles Busch, también director y guionista), un enfermero danés que parece dar en el clavo con las necesidades de su paciente.

Jan ve en Gil, un joven amante del clásico Hollywood de las estrellas más fulgurantes, a alguien que tiene más puntos en común con él mismo que lo que desea afrontar. Desea protegerlo porque sabe que los chicos como él, introvertidos y refinados, suelen encontrarse con resistencias indeseadas. Intenta enseñarle a nadar como una forma de valerse por sí mismo, porque sabe que el destino de su abuela es inexorable. Su amistad con los coiffeurs Glenda (Julie Halston) y Lee (Carl Andress) confirma que el muchacho de trece años se siente muy a gusto en el entorno creativo que la peluquería ofrece, así también con la presencia de homosexuales como Lee y el propio Jan. Sabe que, cuando Gil vaya a vivir con su tía Carol (J. Smith-Cameron) y su primo dos años mayor, Larry (Mark Richard Keith), las circunstancias de su estadía podrían no ser tan felices como espera.

Hay mucho de bueno en este ganador de un premio en el Festival de Tribeca. Detrás de un noble relato sobre un verano inolvidable en la vida de un chico a la que le llega la hora de crecer hay una reflexión no menos importante sobre lo que significa verdaderamente aceptarse a uno mismo, sea gay o no.

So today in accounting, we were supposed to do the inclass that was going on, but because the hockey game went into over time, the class managed to sway our teacher into letting us go, and it was great because most of the school was in the lobby during period F, and then the bell went, so the lobby cleared out, and then in period G we were all back plus more and when Canada scored in over time the cheers were deafening and then we were all jumping and I nearly got tackled and some kid was nearly pushed over and the screaming  was so loud and then we were all singing in the halls and it was great
