It had been sometime in the making but Sariya had made sure that it was perfect. The night before she left his gift out on the table knowing that he would most likely be up before her, especially with the way her work had been consuming her. Between work and making sure that his gift was still thriving, Sariya had been so very sleepy.
Beside the large round pot, she had left him a note.
Morning Damien <3 Merry Christmas!
If you’re reading this, I’m sorry I’m still sleeping. But I’m so excited about your present that even while I’m asleep I can’t wait to give it to you. I hope you like it :)
Love, Sariya
P.S. If I’m not awake yet, come wake me up please <3

They were sitting on the couch, munching on popcorn and marathoning the original Harry Potter movies before she was planning to drag him out to see Fantastic Beasts with her. It had been a while since she and Gabriel had just hung out and she’d been enjoying the company. In fact, she’d been enjoying it enough that she managed to wait all the way until they were watching the Goblet of Fire and the Triwizard Tournament had started before she mentioned, “So like, if you had to rank my bad ideas, where would you put ‘dating the antichrist’ on that list?”
Gabriel tilted his head, considering the question for a moment. “Well, the antichrist is only half angel, right?”
“Yup.”
“The other half human?”
“Witch, actually. But he’s not that good at magic. Getting better, but still.”
He let out a sigh. “Then somehow, dating the antichrist is a less terrible idea than dating Raphael. But only because he’s not a full-blooded angel because… well, even I can admit angels are the worst.”
She nodded in agreement. “Present company excluded.”
He shrugged. “Maybe in your opinion, but not in most other’s. Angels kind of just suck, always.”
“I’m not gonna argue about that with you.” Sure, her experience with the species was limited to Raphael (who sucked), Gabriel (who was pretty cool), Daniel (who was kind of an ass, but had never been rude to her personally), and well, Damien. But Daniel and Damien almost didn’t count, being an ex-angel and a half-angel, and Gabriel was a pretty obvious exception to the rule following, stick in the mud nature of most of his siblings. So overall, they sucked with a handful of exceptions.
“Is this your way of telling me that you’re dating someone? And that he’s the antichrist?”
“Yes and yes,” she answered.
“Huh. How’d you meet?”
She laughed. It was a simple question, but the answer was weird and she could at least admit to that. Still, Gabriel was her oldest friend and she gave him an honest answer, about how the first time they met Damien was stealing from her shop and the second time, he was trying to steal her car. He arched a brow at her when she was done.
“Do you like trouble? Is that why you’re still friends with me? And why you seem to have like… not the worst taste, but kind of bad taste, at least?”
Another laugh escaped her. “Maybe? I don’t do it on purpose, I swear. Damien’s just… I dunno, nice? Fun? Also super talented with a guitar, even if he sucks at magic. He’s a good guy.”
Gabriel smiled at her, his expression shifting slightly.
“What?” she asked, suspicious of that look.
“Nothing. It’s just been a long time since I’ve seen you smile like that. Sounds like he really makes you happy.”
“He does,” she agreed.
“And he’s still not the worst idea you’ve ever had, so like, congrats? That’s what you’re supposed to say to new couples, right?”
She narrowed her eyes slightly at him before shaking her head. “I can’t tell if you don’t know the social etiquette for this situation because you’re not human or because you’ve never dated anyone seriously and I don’t know if any of your friends have either.”
“Probably both with some emphasis on the second thing you said,” he decided, a firm nod making the statement seem more official.
“Well, yeah. That’s what you’re supposed to say. So thanks.”
“Now I’m supposed to make an offer to beat him up if he breaks your heart, right?”
She nodded. “Yeah, some friends do that. We both know I can kick his ass myself, though.”
He laughed. “True, but I’ll be there if you need me.”
Chair frowned as he sat down on the couch and rubbed at his temples. Knowing that he wasn’t alone as he moved to stretch out on the couch and hold back a small groan, “don’t ask...” he sighed, as he pressed his face against a throw pillow.
