i’m alive!!!! but i’ve had 0 time and 0 energy lately so consider me on like.... 95% hiatus until May 5th! after that, i’ll be semi-active for like..... two weeks? and then i’m in North Carolina for a week for work and will not have my laptop so up to a full hiatus.

also! i am busy p much every weekend from now until june and we have a huge work event coming up so work has been bat shit and will continue to be bat shit for…. a while. consider me on SEMI-HIATUS for the next few months and starting tomorrow, a FULL HIATUS for the week while i prep for the trip.

“I said I missed you. I’ve been in New York with Dae and Azzy for years but neither one of them knew where you were,” she rambled, fidgeting a little as she tried to keep some distance between the two of them. He seemed so ready to bolt already and she didn’t want to actually make him leave.

“No one knows.” Or no one was supposed to, anyway. And Leo was usually on the move. Before Zia, he’d never stayed in one place long. Even the first time around with Zia, he’s still been pretty nomadic. This was the longest he’d been in one place in centuries. “I didn’t want anyone to know.”

“You also offered to kill my mother and I don’t think that would have done much good either.” He wasn’t entirely sure Leo still wouldn’t go through with that offer, but he had also offered to kill Colette once too and that had been…alarming. “The most trouble I get into is trying to off myself which I haven’t done since we got here.” Not that it would do him any good with a literal doctor running the show. “How many higher ups want information on this place?”

“It wouldn’t have backfired as badly though.” That particular offer was still on the table, honestly, and Leo wasn’t sure he wouldn’t do it, even if Zia never asked for it. “It’s been a nice change of pace,” he answered and he meant that. It wasn’t nearly as painful or stressful. “Probably a lot. I mean, Cord was exiled and not just like straight up killed, and that’s pretty rare, I think?”

“Until she does something stupid to bring him back and then we’re right back at square one or worse.” He knew Cord was working on something, but it was hardly the wolf’s place to ask questions. He was content to help on the cars and anything else that he could do with his hands. “You mean as long as you don’t cause too much trouble? I dunno, it’s hard to turn in information on her if we just…don’t leave?”

“I meant more in general. In this specific case, I think it wouldn’t work and I definitely don’t wanna know what she’s willing to do to bring him back, you know?” It was already complicated enough and Leo wasn’t even sure he had the full picture. “I’m not the only troublemaker between the two of us,” he teased, his hands stilling in Zia’s hair at the suggestion. “I... kind of have to at some point? Whether I want to or not like... I gotta do my job or end up on hell’s shit list and I’d really, really rather not do that.”

“Please…” Had it been nearly anyone else, she might not have pushed. She wouldn’t have even been all that surprised, really. But he had ranked high on her list of favorites and she hadn’t expected him to want to get away from her. “Please. I missed you…”

His steps faltered at that, because honestly, he hadn’t really expected much of anyone to even notice he was gone. It took a moment to process the wordss, but even then he was sure he had misheard her. “You what?”

“It’s a little concerning that murder is your go to answer for most things.” Although, he knew Leo had a small point. If Wilder was dead, it might get the other demon off of their collective asses, but he doubted his sister wouldn’t try to find a way to bring the damn boy back. “I think she would. She seems the type.”

“Still a demon and also it’s like, effective as fuck, dude.” It would be here, too, if he thought Colette wouldn’t just lose it. But she’d gone this far to keep Wilder safe and Leo could see her going further. “I think as long as we don’t cause too much trouble, it’d be fine? I’m more concerned about someone asking me to spy on her for them.”

His reaction hurt and she genuinely didn’t understand why he seemed unhappy to see her. Truth be told, she had missed him terribly and couldn’t help but think there was a reason she was running into him. “Leo, stop. Wait!”

He wanted to leave, but getting outside of the wards would be risky and stupid and he didn’t actually want to leave Zia, if he could help it. But his fight or flight instinct had kicked in hard and he was ready to flee. “Nope, sorry, gotta go,” he answered, bouncing on his feet slightly as he retreated away from her.

Going to Cord’s bar was something Saph and Kori tried to do at least a couple of times a month, but they had been slacking recently. Things had been hectic for the harpy at work and Saph had been, for the most part, trying to see what trouble she could get into. So it wasn’t much of a surprise that she had ended up at the bar, looking for Grayson to trade candy with. 

Instead, her gaze fell on an all too familiar face and a large smile lit up her features. “Leo?!”

He froze. It had been centuries since he’d heard that voice, heard any of those voices, but something in him still recognized it. No, no, no, no, nonono. His eyes flickered to find her and something in him processed the fact that she seemed happy to see him. It was almost nice. But he was far too panicked to appreciate it. “I, uh. I need to... need to go,” he said, standing and looking for somewhere to bolt.

“Yeah…” He couldn’t argue that, not with the way he had watched Leo fight tooth and nail to stay by him. It was sort of a sore point for him, but only because he felt guilty for just how bad he could get towards him. “I think I’m going to lose her no matter how things turn out. I can’t think of any way she can pull this off without darker magic and I don’t want involved with that.” His fingers played over Leo’s, needing to distract himself even a little. “But I still like it here.

“I’d offer to kill Wilder, but I don’t think it would actually help overall.” It was the only solution he had to offer, though. There was no way he’d go up against Azazel, no way that was a fight he could win, so this was the best he could do. Still, he had a feeling it would only make things worse. “Cord might let us stay.” And Leo might be able to get away with spending time around the exiled demon, even if it wouldn’t look good.

An amused smile spreads across her lips. “Singing seems like a very strong word. Although, if that’s a talent you’ve got stashed away on me, I’m going to have to request immediate access to it.” If Penelope can sing, Morgan isn’t sure how she’ll survive, but that’s a problem to figure out later.

She schools her expression into something more serious, giving Penelope her full attention. “I am proud of you, though. Just so you know. You’ve been through... a lot. Especially considering how long you’ve been roaming this planet. Overall, I think you’re doing a pretty good job.”

She rolled her eyes at him. “So what you’re telling me is you were an annoying yappy puppy and people got annoyed with it and now you’re annoying to protect yourself. Somehow I am not surprised by this knowledge. Like at all,” she told him. She smiled to herself and looked down. “Please do,” she said. She actually wouldn’t mind at all if followed up. How strange.

She sighed. Leave it to her brother to have behavioral tendencies in common with demons and angels. “I’m content with a boring life after all this,” she told him. “I think the restless sort forget that their choices and decisions affect the quiet, boring people in their lives.” Losing her brother had caused her world to stop turning. She almost didn’t recover from it. And then he was there, and Kyle had traded his soul to save him. She was exhausted just thinking about everything the two of them put her through. “Aww, but you’d be the center of attention! I would have thought you’d like that,” she joked with a laugh at his expense. Sarah sat back and listened as he talked. She never would have guessed he could be this open and honest with her, especially about things like this. She reached for her cup and fiddled with the handle, thinking about everything he was saying. “If you had a choice, would you want that? A human life with freewill? Or would you still pick the life you have?” she asked him when he was done. She liked how he painted it, though. That maybe it didn’t have to be one or the other in life. There could be a little bit of both. There was room to be both.

He flashed her a bright grin. “I’m just me. Not my fault if people are annoyed by it.” Most people were, but he always liked the ones who weren’t. Kyle didn’t seem to care for it, but Pete didn’t complain. It made Leo want to be more helpful to the pair of them. Or, well, the three of them. God knew they wouldn’t get anywhere without Sarah.

His head tipped, considering that. He knew plenty of restless people. They didn’t tend to think about others. Neither did he, but that was sort of a demon trait. “You’re probably right. I mean, a little adventure might be good for you, but I think this is definitely too much adventure for the average human.” Even for the adventurous kind. Dying was no walk in the park. Leo scrunched his nose. “Bad attention is a thing and that would be bad. I try to avoid that.” He wouldn’t deny that he liked attention, but he also knew there were times when it was better to stay hidden. Her question drew a shake of his head. “I made the choices I made for a reason. I wouldn’t change them. Humans are still fragile. You’re neat but... you break easy and die young.” He’d never really been interested in either of those things.

“I don’t see her being here long term. Wilder looks ready to jump out of his skin and I don’t know what will make her stop following him.” It was worrisome, honestly, and he wasn’t sure he wanted to get dragged down with her in that mess. “I don’t want to be canon fodder in her suicide mission, you know?” It felt weird to say with just how intent on dying he had been for so long. He wasn’t entirely sure if he wanted to live or if he just didn’t want to die by someone else’s hand.

“I don’t think she will. Love tends to make people... extra dumb. Even the smart ones.” Leo didn’t think there was a damn thing Zia could do to get him to leave. He had a feeling Colette felt the same way. “I could try to intervene, but I can’t guarantee it wouldn’t backfire?” he offered. He didn’t really want to get more involved if he could help it. He’d already drawn the attention of too many higher demons, but like he said, love made people dumb.
