whilst winston would never admit it, he also thought it was better they deal with this in person. he just never actually imagined that archie would come all the way back here. there was a stupid little part of him that hoped that if he ignored the divorce papers, it would all just go away. winston isn't stupid but he sure is optimistic. "i haven't received any papers, archie. believe me, i'd have sent them back so you didn't have to sully your good city name by coming back to the town that just held ya back all those years." and there it is again, the misery of losing archie so long ago never failed to hit deep at winston's soul, making him more miserable than any one person truly should be. it didn't matter that they didn't work, people got married and they worked at it. or, at least, that was what winston hoped happened. he hoped that people, when they really loved one another, could work on their issues and keep on going. but he and archie had never been able to do that. they had always been tumultuous and even their break up hadn't been easy and simple. everything was fucked up when they were together. but god, winston loved that. at least, he used to love that.
