There's a blank stare for a second, wondering if Gary is actually seriously trying to compare experiences. "Well, I think I blacked out a couple of times from the hammer to the head, so that's kind of the same thing." She's joking, although whether the tone is lighthearted or bitter is anyone's guess.

While Addy is not a stranger to having people stare at her, she doesn't particularly handle it well. Especially now, in college, as she tries desperately to make something out of herself besides just being the girl who was attacked with a hammer and left for dead one Fourth of July night. She can't help but feel anger simmering whenever she catches someone's eyes lingering for a bit too long.

This time, it seems she can't even drink tea in a cafe while working on her physics reading without it. It gets to her enough that she makes a comment on it as they start to walk by her, "If you're gonna stare that much, you might as well take the seat across from me." It's sarcastic, but she kicks the chair in front of her out a little.

It wasn't uncommon to see kids hitch a ride from one shit town only to end up in another shit town. He didn't care much what happened to them, they chose their path they can deal with it like a man. This kid was no different

His head turned back, giving him a pointed stare, " You wanna get dragged back home? " His finger taps on the table, his irritation showing, " no. we're not stickin' in town. we head north "

the silence might have been nice for the other boys, but for eddie it only kept his mind racing. barkovitch was annoying and only seemed to cause problems, but there was something about him that made eddie feel some sort of sympathy for the guy. at least when he would talk, it distracted him from the ache that was beginning to settle in his left knee.

It is probably not the kind of advice that is considered healthy, but it is the first thing that comes to Nadine’s mind. They even offer out the joint that they have started working their way through, in case that’s what he really needs. Gotta be some reason he’s out here and not smoking.

“It is certainly not how your doctor would recommend dealing with this shit, but it works like a fucking charm.” They grin. “Oh, or drinking. But you’d have to go back inside for that, so..”
