The boy was tempted not to comment. Tempted. And in the end he figured it wouldn’t matter. What were the chances that his signing would be understood anyway?

Kyle turns in shock. No one should be in the booth besides him. How did someone get in?

Then he realizes. It’s her. The woman from the Artist’s Struggle. At least, that’s what she said. She showed up with a detective.

He killed her. Didn’t he?

Well. Obviously he didn’t. She looks as alive as ever. Even her makeup is immaculate. The wiring here must be shot. Idly, Kyle thinks he’ll get someone to fix it. Just in case he’s asked to murder anyone else in the future.

(The whole thing has given him a migraine. At once he feels relief and fear, choking him. He’s glad he didn’t kill her. He’s terrified Cohen will find out.)

“You shouldn’t be here,” he says. He can hear how strained his voice must sound. “You might get caught.”

Pain and loss. Is she talking about the performance?

“Pain and loss are supposed to be artistic,” he says. He knows how ridiculous he sounds. “I guess it’s easier to appreciate the artistic beauty of pain if you’re not the one feeling it. Are…are you quite alright?”

There’s really no argument there, though, she’d learned not to argue with the artists around this city, especially those who have intense passion for what they do. But that doesn’t mean there should be no price to pay for what’s been done, or even for what may be done in the future.

“Caught?” She’s a little confused, but these worlds, they’re still so different from one another, despite how well she’s come to know these corridors. The woman will have to be careful. “I won’t be here long.”

There’s more business to attend to, after all, and she’s almost out of time.

She didn’t seem too bothered about what Kyle might have seen happen - things have happened a little differently for her - but the way he makes it sound, things hadn’t turned out all that great for her or anybody else involved. Not particularly surprising, considering what she knows of Sander Cohen.

"I’m perfectly alright,” she assures him. Though, such a statement was extremely far from true. 

“So you suppose loss and pain are given meaning through the arts,” she suggests. She’d never thought of it that way before, though it feels a little wrong to go through so much trouble for somebody else’s personal gain. “One would think there should be a greater use for it all.”

Send me a ◠ for a headcanon I have about your muse. 

[ Kyle has permanent callouses on those long, slender fingers from playing SIX INSTRUMENTS (seriously, what was the man thinking, playing that many instruments with that level of skill!) Sometimes, he feels phantom pains in his fingers from his labors, and wonders if his hands will lose their peculiar dexterity. He combats this fear by long baths, sometimes augmented by a packet of perfumed herbal bath salts from the Farmer’s Market. However, the pain increases when he begins splicing, leading to further paranoia. Though, to be fair, it isn’t really considered “paranoia” when you have a good reason for it.
