A new accession of videos came in for our ACT UP collection in the last few months and rather than sending them to an external vendor, the archives are now digitizing them in-house using off the shelf equipment. The thin metal box on top of the machines is a time base corrector which stabilizes the image, allows the engineer to color correct and adjust volume levels, and puts out a digital signal superior to one that had gone directly from a VCR to a computer.
