You may think the measure of a man is contingent on how he monetarily provides for the ones he loves. I feel it is measured by how he treats the ones he loves. It is about nurturing, cherishing and respecting them. It is taking responsibility, and not making excuses for anything that causes your them distress, no matter how small.
