One has no right to love or hate anything if one has not acquired a thorough knowledge of its nature. Great love springs from great knowledge of the beloved object, and if you know it but little you will be able to love it only a little or not at all.
Leonardo da Vinci (via purplebuddhaproject)
Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It’s the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.
Louise Erdrich, The Painted Drum (via wordsnquotes)
these lists of books to read before you die that are full of classics are all well and good but what if you don’t like classics? and what about the ya ones that are just full of popular series? so this is an alternative list of ya books you should read before you die. thanks to everyone who contributed books; i’ve had to miss some off because i’ve got more than 100, so i’ll probably include them on a second list. (also, i’ve not actually read all these books. it’s a group effort)

You may think the measure of a man is contingent on how he monetarily provides for the ones he loves. I feel it is measured by how he treats the ones he loves. It is about nurturing, cherishing and respecting them. It is taking responsibility, and not making excuses for anything that causes your them distress, no matter how small. That is the true measure of a man. #lesson #wordsofwisdom #listen #awomanknows #men #love #relationships #excuse #responsibility #distress #nuture #cherish #respect #themeasureofaman
To get the most out of your life you have to focus on your gift and not your passion. Too many people focus on their passion and not their gift. Your gift is this...it is the thing that you do the absolute best with the least amount of effort. That's what God gave you. Go do that. #gift #yourgift #whatisyourgift #passion #life #yourbestlife #justdoit #steveharvey #morningshow
I met this older woman on the train today. It was the 7 train at Grand Central Station. I tried to offer her my seat, but she noticed a young lady sitting near me and said, "I would love to sit if this young lady would slide over". She proceeded to tell me that sometimes you have to remind the young ones. This woman was sassy, kind, wise and a blessing to be near. I looked at her face and knew I was in the presence of a beautiful soul. We wished each other Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and bestowed blessings on each other. She reminded me of something that I will always carry with me and do my best to remember on the not so good days. "There is always something to be thankful for". She was right. No matter what is going on or how bad it gets, there is always something to be thankful for. To the woman on the train today...thank you for being a blessing. I was having a not so good day and you reminded me that even in the midst of it there is always something to be thankful for. #7train #grandcentralstation #angel #beautiful #wise #soul #merrychristmas #happyyear #blessings #thankful #thereisalwayssomethingtobethankfulfor
