OPENING RECEPTION: FRIDAY, JAN. 17th, 7:30-10:30pm EXHIBITION DATES: JAN. 17 - 19, 2014
AxcessArt, a curatorial project from Vanessa Fernandez and Jerry Gomez, is pleased to present NONOTAK NEW YORK, a collaborative and immersive installation by the French duo Noémi Schipfer and Takami Nakamoto, known as NONOTAK.
NONOTAK's installations obscure their method of construction, creating ethereal and dreamlike environments that envelope the viewer in space and light. Spectators are encouraged to touch, walk into, and submerge themselves in the altered and otherworldly environments created. Wired.com has described NONOTAK’s installations as making the viewer “lose all sense of space” and “ultimately breaking the audience from reality.” Each installation is site-specific. For this New York exhibition, NONOTAK will also present ten mixed-media pieces that are a conceptual intersection of traditional 2D works and installation. NONOTAK is the collaboration of artist/illustrator, Noémi Schipfer, and architect/musician Takami Nakamoto. What began as an exploration of the relationship between space and light with little attachment to the end product has developed into a full-blown installation-based collaboration creating controlled sound and light environments in which viewers can fully interact with the work. A true collaboration, NONOTAK draws on and incorporates the strengths of its two collaborators. As an illustrator, Noémi Schipfer brings with her an interest in kinetic visuals—how visual movement can be generated with lines and primitive geometry. As an architect and musician, Takami Nakamoto approaches sounds as space and vice versa.
Please join us for NONOTAK NEW YORK's opening reception on Friday, Jan. 17th from 7:30 to 10:30pm. The exhibiton will be on view from Jan. 17-19, 2014, and Fowler will hold extended gallery hours that weekend on Saturday from 12-5pm and on Sunday from 12-6pm.
