Studying abroad in Spain wasn’t anything Ryan ever saw himself doing. It wasn’t that the Omega lacked an adventurous spirit, but rather because he had never taken Spanish, and never learned much of anything about the country beyond the basic things that were covered in his history courses. But it was the most popular study abroad program, as well as the least expensive and with the most spots available. Not to mention, it was one of the only ones where there was an option to take classes in English.
And after a bad break-up with an even worse Alpha, nothing sounded better than getting away to somewhere where he wouldn’t run the risk of seeing his face around campus at random. So, Ryan applied for the Spain program, and next semester, he found himself at the University of Barcelona.
While he made sure to schedule the English-speaking courses, Ryan didn’t want to be entirely lost for the term he would spend there, so he signed up for a basic Spanish could as well. What he hadn’t realized was that he inadvertently placed himself in Spanish class, rather than Spanish language. On the very first day he found himself utterly lost, as everyone in the room seemed to already be speaking Spanish, and as he thumbed through the textbook, he discovered his mistake. He turned to the student sitting next to him, whispering hurriedly in the hopes that he could tell him before the professor arrived.
“Excuse me... um... Anglais?” Even his attempted Spanish was terrible, but he was trying in earnest.
