unpopular opinion ahoy but i think seasalt trio friendship is massively overestimated. it only became something real on axel’s end shortly before everything went to shit. his friendship with roxas and xion was 80% going through the motions. he never felt anything toward either of them initially, beyond maybe a passing curiosity about the new powers and how useful they’d be on his side. he was ordered to spend time with them, so he did. for his and saïx’s plan. he wanted their trust, so he gained it by replicating what he remembered of how friendship worked.  it’s actually p sad to watch them eating ice cream together, knowing very well that axel’s only copying what he and isa used to do. ice cream + banter = friendship. he never intended to like either of them. it just sort of happened, like whatever weird ‘heart’ he suspected roxas still carried was infecting him.  things kit needs from kh3: actual honest communication between the three.
