Because y'all are (rightfully) gremlins and I'm living for the serotonin boosts these sneak peeks are giving me

Something warm wraps around her middle and pulls her back down into the mattress. “It’s just the wind,” a deep voice murmurs in her ear. “No need to damage the room.”

Bloom reaches for it, and finds herself with a fist full of a satiny material. Too nice to be the bedsheets. “No…has to stop…”

The pillow in her back shifts like it's chuckling. “Don’t ruin the moment, sweetheart. Go back to sleep.”

Some of the tears start to drip from her eyes. It makes her head hurt, and Bloom has a sudden flash of sitting in this very room, drinking. “Nightmares. I can’t.”

“They’re just dreams,” the voice insists, “They won’t hurt you. Do you want my help to get rid of them?”

“Yes.”

There’s a light chiming sound of a spell activating. Bloom’s muscles suddenly feel heavy, fog settling over her mind once again. “I…I did something horrible,” she murmurs, turning her head towards the voice. She doesn’t know why she’s saying it; with the spell washing over her and her own exhaustion she can barely remember what it is.

She’s rewarded with a featherlight kiss. “I know. Go back to sleep, Bloom.”

Somehow still grinding through the fic that's also taken over my life. I'm about halfway done with it at a current word count of 17.5k, and it's looking like it'll be 5 (maaaaybe 6) chapters. I've jumped around in writing certain sections, but I did knock out about 1k of the next chapter today so *gestures vaguely* you know what's under here:

Her head swivels to look at Baltor, kneeling on the ground next to her. She’s surprised to see him sans jacket, but doesn’t comment. He scans her, eyes lingering on her bare (and now bruised) shoulders before returning to her face. “You look awful.”

”Thanks.” Bloom deadpans, meeting his gaze. “Where are the girls?”

”Alive. Gorgol’s defenses are keeping them in a suspended state - I even believe Aisha escaped it. But the Dragon Fire and Sirenix are not meant to interact for extended periods. Your magic was starting to fail. It would have killed you.”

”Bullshit. You expect me to believe that?”

A small smirk cracks his features. The surprises keep coming as Baltor lays down on the stone, hands under his head as he stares at the sky. “You can believe what you like. I didn’t expect a thank you.”

The relaxed attitude does little to put her at ease - in fact it’s the opposite. “Then why do it?”

“What a good question.”

“No!” Bloom slams her fist on the desk, rocking a stack of papers. She doesn’t care as some of them float to the ground. She doesn’t even care if Griselda hears. “Don’t placate me, tell me the truth. I deserve that.”

Faragonda’s eyebrow twitches, but after a moment she answers. “The Wishing Star’s power is too unpredictable. Unlike Sirenix, there’s no guardian to keep the magic in check. It’s older, more wild.” There’s a pause as Faragonda obviously debates adding two words hanging unspoken in the air. She shakes it off and continues. “Not to mention tracking the star is nearly impossible. The Solarian Astronomy Delegation has tried, yet they’ve only gotten within five light years two thousand years ago. It’s an impossible task.”

Bloom remembers Baltor running calculations with a sundial in the Magic Archive. “I could figure it out. The Winx and I.”

“Possibly,” Faragonda concedes, though her face is still stony. “But Bloom, we both know this Wishing Star business is only a distraction for the matter at hand.”

For the first time since entering her office, Bloom is confused. “The matter at hand. What’s that?”

The confusion seems mutual. “...Well…that is, I sent word. I assumed that’s why you were here. Why you came in guns drawn, as they say.”

“…What word?”
