the analyst desk echoes behind her as her mic finally falls to her waist, quickly taken by staff and thanked for her work today. aylin's left to trail behind the winning team of the day, keeping a respectable distance though her eyes find themselves looking at the back of one player's head. two hours ago, the other caster's had joked about her commitment to betting on one particular team, like she'd wormed her way into becoming some kind of lucky charm. not that she's brazen enough to entertain that. somewhere in the shuffle off of the stage, she bumps into him, eyes quickly glancing up. “sorry,” she murmurs, offering a smile jaehyuk's way. “good game today. i think i could hear the crowd chanting your name more than just a few times back there.”
@4ylins — ❝ i'm doing some of my best work here and you don't even have the decency to roll your eyes at me. honestly it's hurtful. ❞
that alone was enough to at least gain a smile out of him, but in her defense he was focusing on the task at hand — research. he was trying to figure out why one of her sensor's kept malfunctioning. it was like a nerve misfiring — hard to really pin down what the cause was, but it could easily mess with a multitude of her enhancements.
"𝚠𝚑𝚢 𝚒𝚜 𝚒𝚝 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚊𝚕𝚠𝚊𝚢𝚜 𝚐𝚒𝚟𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚋𝚎𝚜𝚝 𝚠𝚘𝚛𝚔 𝚠𝚑𝚎𝚗 𝚒'𝚖 𝚏𝚘𝚌𝚞𝚜𝚒𝚗𝚐?" he stops reading the screen in front of him and turns to look at her, "𝚠𝚊𝚒𝚝 — 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚔𝚗𝚘𝚠 𝚠𝚑𝚊𝚝? 𝚍𝚘𝚗'𝚝 𝚊𝚗𝚜𝚠𝚎𝚛 𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚝," he chuckles softly, knowing full well that when he wasn't working, he was usually rattling on about some new technology or how he'd worked with some impressive spy tech a few weeks prior. it wasn't that he wasn't interested in what anyone else had to say, he just had a tendency to ramble on....and on.

"they did it." emmeline's face was blank until her chin started quivering and tears falling from her eyes. her side hurt, it was most likely psychosomatic but it didn't make it not real. had it been harrison? she'd wanted to help him after the jones' house had burned down, feeling guilty about her behaviour - he had known what state she was in and had gone out of his way to physically hurt her. that meant that one of them had killed alara and she'd lost her best friend over her reaction to that news. there was always going to be something and it made her feel so alone. emmeline took a deep breath and stared back at aylin, unable to say anything before her tears completely overrode the woman.
Text: Aylin
Emmeline: Hi, how are you doing? Know we've not spoken recently but I'm here if you need anything.
Text to: Aylin
Emmeline: Aylin, please tell me you're okay. I'm going to Max's to recoup and I'll see if there's a way for me to get my house keys back/get someone to break in and you're more than welcome to stay with me. I can't imagine what you must be going through like I'm shaking but it doesn't come close to your situation at hand. Sorry if this text makes you feel worse. I'm here.

a tired emmeline had been quick to retreat to the spare room she was assigned and spent most of it lying down. sleep wasn't something the woman struggled with necessarily but her nightmares would make her feel like she hadn't rested at all. charlie was always the perpetrator in those, a moment of intimacy suddenly turning brutal. what was wrong with her? he was in her head and she couldn't get him out - he was so angry at her. perhaps she had upset him by doing something wrong so if that was the case, she'd be really sorry... she couldn't help but feel like it was her own guilty conscience. maybe she'd upset him and that's why he was being so defensive. emmeline had just got out of prison, where she couldn't imagine a future for herself and now charlie of all people seemed to be in her head?
finally emerging out of the room in the same clothes from the day before and greasy hair, the woman made her way into the kitchen for some water. it took her a moment to register the other in the room. "oh, hello. you must be aylin?" it was a guess - it was either aylin or an intruder... "thank you for letting me stay here." alara had been the one to suggest it and emmeline had quickly agreed.
