You get a strange feeling when you’re about to leave a place. Like you’ll not only miss the people you love but you’ll miss the person you are now at this time and this place, because you’ll never be this way ever again.

"That's nothing, said Manna, next to what happened to my sister's friends at the Amir Kabir Polytechnic University. During lunch three of the girls were in the yard eating apples. They were reprimanded by the guards: they were biting their apples too seductively!" . . . . . #currentlyreading #bookstagram #foodinbooks #bookworm #igreads #bibliophile #amoleggere #vintagebooks #met_createchange #culturetripbooks #readinglolitaintehran #azarnafisi #apple #apple https://www.instagram.com/p/BnY9mRnFeol/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=gvh30qzmkgpc
Natalie: “I’ve been doing a lot of reading about the revolution in Cuba because I’m going there at the end of the month. I was sparked to read this book because it’s also about revolutions—both the public ones and the private ones that happen at home. There isn’t a simple answer, but what this book makes clear is that talking about books is freeing, especially for the girls and women in this story. They discuss Nabokov, Henry James, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. All of those authors are banned in Tehran, I’m not sure why. What I truly love is that this book describes the female gaze on male literature. I work for a non-profit in South Side. We do a lot of programming for women and girls. Not to be too cheesy on International Women’s Day, but it matters that we as women band together. This book illustrates it beautifully.” @_beautifulanddamned #ReadingLolitaInTehran #AzarNafisi /@theubc for #subwaybookreview #Chicago #internationalwomensday (at Chicago Loop)

Yesterday, I had the wonderful opportunity to listen to and meet Azar Nafisi. I was absolutely blown away by her power and spirit. Until next time. #azarnafisi #readinglolitaintehran #therepublicofimagination #seeyouinwashingtondc #kindredspirits (at Valencia Performing Arts Center)
