Lauren was a little overwhelmed, but it didn’t really have much to do with the party. At least, not at this particular moment. “Alright, don’t make fun of me when I say this,” she began once she finally reached a familiar face again. “But I just got so lost on the way to the bathroom. Seriously, somehow I ended up in the kitchen--the food looks great, by the way--but I still don’t really know how I ended up there.”
Zoey had been in awe that Alex had gone to the trouble of making this a surprise for her. All the people she considered friends and family were here. It was enough to make her a little teary eyed. She felt like she’d be getting emotional all night. She wasn’t used to much attention, especially on her birthday. Zoey was having fun, and already she’d gotten serenaded by a famous musician and cried again. She wondered when she wouldn’t cry. Her curiosity had gotten the best of her and she excused herself for a moment to go check her phone. She hadn’t seen any missed calls and even made a call to see if her phone was getting reception. She heaved a sigh and started to head back in when she almost ran into someone. “I’m sorry. I was just getting a little fresh air. Getting serenaded was a little overwhelming. Rick Valentine was sweet to do that for me,” she said conversationally, hoping her smile was bright and cheery.
“Yeah, sure, just go for it.”, he told the person next to him that’d asked if they could have the last piece of chocolate cake. “I wouldn’t want it anyway because I hate chocolate so you’re actually doing me a favor.”, he snorted.
Riley was feeling slightly awkward. It wasn’t that she was awkward within herself, Riley was normally the life of a party. But Alex hadn’t lied when she said that most of the people at this party were going to be younger than her and they had a different version of partying than she did now. There had been a stripper after all and Riley had ducked out after that started. She took a moment with her beer, ruffling her hair as she glanced around the crowd through the window. “There’s definitely more people in there than I thought there would be...”
“Well, I’m mostly here for the free drinks.” Brooke joked, taking a sip of her drink before looking over to the birthday girls. It was more of an affair that she expected it to be. “Anyway, you want something to drink? I’m calling this drink ‘white trash elegance.’ It’s basically just vodka.”
Notes: Rick serenades Zoey at her birthday dinner.
Rick had sang happy birthday to the birthday girls and then there was another song on his agenda. “Miss Sinclair, this is for you.”
Zoey’s eyes widened because she was still i shock that The Rick Valentine was in the same room with her. Let alone he’d sang her Happy Birthday. Now he was singing to her again. As soon as the beat dropped to the song, she’d felt like her heart had stopped. This wasn’t real. Rick wasn’t singing one of her favorite songs to her.
“I found a love for me. Darling, just dive right in and follow my lead. Well, I found a girl, beautiful and sweet.Oh, I never knew you were the someone waiting for me, 'Cause we were just kids when we fell in love. Not knowing what it was. I will not give you up this time. But darling, just kiss me slow
Your heart is all I own.And in your eyes you're holding mine.” Rick sang on stage, but stepped off, walking toward Zoey. He beckoned he toward him and she looked star struck and shy. He walked the whole way then. Taking her hand, pulling her from her chair, so that he could dance with her while they danced.
He was touching her hand. He was pulling her up. He was literally slow dancing with her. She was going to hyperventilate. She was going to cry. Yep, the tears were coming. She’d been such a fan in the Commonfolk world and here this was. On her birthday. Her birthday had ceased to be special since her parents had long since forgotten her, but this one was one she wouldn’t forget.
Rick loved it when his fans cried. When he could spark that kind of emotion from someone was amazing to him. He gave her a gentle squeeze, spinning her and bringing hr back in. “Baby, I'm dancing in the dark. With you between my arms. Barefoot on the grass. Listening to our favourite song. When you said you looked a mess. I whispered underneath my breath. But you heard it, Darling, you look perfect tonight.”
Yep the waterworks weren’t pretty. Her face was a deep shade of red as she danced. Rick had finished the song and she thought she couldn’t feel her face, but then he kissed her cheek and he said, “Happy birthday, Zoey.” She hugged him once more and thanked I’m for the song and she felt as though she was on cloud nine for a moment. That was a surreal experience. A once in a lifetime experience. She just could not believe. This dinner didn’t fill the void of her parents not calling, but it did make her feel a little better.
I still can’t believe I managed to get this back here from Disney without you noticing. Anyway, happy birthday! What better way to celebrate than with your favorite Disney characters?
The snow globe plays A Whole New World if you wind it up, and I made sure to get the one with the handle of the lamp so you can put it on your charm bracelet if you want to. That way if you’re ever feeling sad you can play it and remember something happy. Oh, and also a donut maker. No explanation needed for that one.
Thanks for being my second big sister. I don’t know what I’d do without you!
You’ve done so much for me that I think anything I ever get you won’t feel like enough, but I thought this was something you’d really like.
The quote on the bracelet is from your girl Rapunzel’s TV show and it means “There’s more in you.” You’re stronger than you think you are, you just have to let yourself be.
Thanks for being my Bachelor buddy and remember I’ll always give you my final rose.
