Okay so in Saloon antics, B just shows up one day, completely unexplained and he had pretended he was from a country going through a war to explain it. He wasn't from there, just from Wales, it's just that if he stayed were he was originally he would basically be fucked. B had basically majorly fucked up, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, basically someone got poisoned and B knew the person, he was there 10 minutes before they died, B didn't actually do anything, B had basically wanting to end it and poisoned his own drink to make it appear like a murder, the area he was in was religious, Christan to be exact and it was frowned upon to end your own life, you will have to die the way "god chose" basically. He went away for a couple of minutes in that someone took his drink and drank it, it killed them. Now someone knew about the whole thing with B and saw him put something in the cup so instantly all fingers pointed at him. Even though he never meant for it to happen. For the next week he had to plan a way to get out and fast. He eventually did and ended up in the same town. To fulfill this almost guilt he did a good deed, stopping someone from stealing, now the original Sheriff was about to retire and B basically doing good deeds made him able to become the next one.

B was originally an outlaw in the town he was in originally. He noticed the town he went to was rather prejudiced so he freed those that didn't deserve to be imprisoned. He noticed James wasn't like anyone else there, he almost saw something interesting about him. So he decided to get to know him. Doing it via being an outlaw too.

B was full of guilt so he often hid his feelings.

James' childhood was rather rough and his family wasn't the best either. He got used to stealing nice things, and his parents often did it so it became a habit. It basically became normal and he does it a little impulsively for this dopamine rush. The original Sheriff was a bit shit so he often got away with it so he would do a bit more just to piss them off
