Beautiful Mountains While the Shores of Johnson Lake (Banff National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the southeast while taking in views across lake waters present in this part of Banff National Park. My thought on composing this image was to keep a leveled-on view with the horizon, keeping a balance between the mountains in the upper portion of the image and the reflections on the lake waters. The other concern I had was metering properly to not blow any highlights in the bright morning sunlight, while still being able to pull the more shadowed areas later in post production. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 6 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

The view stretches east-southeast across the ocean, showing off the cliffs and rock formations of Channel Islands National Park.

I Am Forever Home in the Mountains (Banff National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the southeast while taking in views across waters at Johnson Lake to more distant shores with evergreens and then the ridges and peaks of the Fairholme Range. What drew me into this view was the layered look with the lake waters and reflection, then evergreen forest, and then finally the mountain peaks.

Stopping by a Joshua Tree on a Snowy Morning (Joshua Tree National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the southeast while taking in views of a Joshua Trees from a roadside pullout along the main park road. This is in Joshua Tree National Park. My thought on composing this image was to use a portrait orientation and then pull back on the focal length so that I could fill this one Joshua tree with most of the image. There would be some negative space with the skies above, but I wanted to include the sun in the skies, even though it was mostly filtered out with the overcast skies that morning.

A Boardwalk Leading Me to Voyageurs National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: I captured this image while waiting for a boat tour in the Woodenfrog State Forest Campground area with the waters of Kabetogama Lake in Voyageurs National Park to my front. The view is extending to the southeast using the boat dock walkway as a leading line into the image. The rest of the image composition was having a balance, more or less, between the lake waters and skies above, using the horizon to separate the two in the image.
