Not much is known about this mysterious group of ancient hybrids. However according to Silhouette's statement in Chapter 1.9, its revealed that they were (or are) half human, half construct hybrids who start out with vampiric powers, above and beyond those of the traditional sort. For centuries, they've been so complacent with their unique abilities, that humans referred to them as "vampires" and began giving them names like: Dracula, the Nosferatu, and Lamia. But in reality, they're actually a family of "incomplete reapers" that only require the element of light to become whole. Silhouette boasted that he obtained light powers when he devoured a young girl's companion and gained its powers, centuries ago. Silhouette then stated that he instantly evolved from vampire to reaper and is currently the Azora Clan's greatest success.
This group is also mentioned both in The Prologue & Epilogue of the first novel when Khalid gives the Mubarak a brief summary how things went during his previous mission fighting against the Azora Clan; securing the sundial they were guarding and having the vampires sealed away into a world of their making called Erebus. The Epilogue then tells us that the mysterious figure, "Moros" plans to travel to Erebus and spread the word of Violet Azora's return, for a yet to be revealed motive.
