3 songs I played over and over this past week
Fela Kuti - Shuffering and Shmiling
Afrika 70 were always puting out jazz tunes with lengths that would instill fear into the hearts of any tiktokbrain. Politically poking fun and expressing disdain thru sarcasm continues to be one of my favorite themes in Fela Kuti's pieces, as well as the obligatory call-and-response from halfway thru the songs onward.
Azymuth - Morning
Fabulous Brazilian fusion jazz piece that I was already familiar with. It really does sound like the flowers and animals and people coming alive with the beginning of the morning. Calming and dreamy and full of life, no further notes.
Bob James - Take Me To The Mardi Gras
Everyone and their mother knows the first 10 seconds of this song whether they realize it or not, due to its heavy use as a sample in countless songs especially in the hip hop and pop genres. This was another song I was familiar with because my dad is a big Bob James fan, but it reappeared on my Spotify weekly playlist so I grew fond of it again.
