In honor of Captain America: The First Avenger week for #roadtoinfinitywar, I'm throwing it back to a little over two months ago at Rhode Island Comic Con. The movie has always held a special place in my heart. I watch it when I'm feeling down, and it's the perfect pick-me-up to remind myself that strength and courage can come in a multitude of different packages. For the hard times that have come and passed, this movie has helped me through them all. So naturally, for my first ever cosplay attempt, I decided I wanted to pull together the Azzano Rescue costume. It's one of my favorite parts in the movie and a really quintissential "Cap Moment" where without even a second thought Steve Rogers pulls on any gear he can find to go rescue his best friend Bucky Barnes from the grips of Hydra. I've been working on this costume for years. It's gone through so many phases that it's hard to keep track of them all. But Halloween 2017, the look finally came together when I finished painting the shield for this costume. I remember slipping the shield onto my arm with the helmet and the jacket and walking around my roommate's house, beaming. And around this time, my roommate gifted me an autograph ticket to meet Bucky Barnes at RICC. I'm not one for pictures, but an array of moments all compiled together in a smattering of sharpie on this specific shield seems very fitting. Sebastian Stan was the first to bring this dream into reality. The broad smile across his face when he connected the hefty shield he was signing to the person standing across from him. A nod of recognition for the costume, the politeness of where I wanted him to sign (which I let him choose, naturally). So thank you @imsebastianstan for being a integral part of a movie (and franchise, and universe) that's helped me find the strength in myself to keep moving forward. And thanks for making me feel cool for just a few seconds on a bitter cold day in Rhode Island.
