so I hear about this fun game called date everything/j
Yeeeeees ♥ Okay so. The thing is that my favourite thing about Date Everything is also the plot, and it's very big spoilers. (As you well know, being the same!) So all I'll say about that is that I love it very much, and then move on to my second favourite part! My second favourite thing about Date Everything is the characters. There are over a hundred named/pictured characters (I'm not doing the math right now, but if you count all five of the Hanks, the duos as separate, the DLC characters and the humans, there's something like... 115ish?) and they're all written with genuine care. Even the more comic-relief characters (Jean-Loo comes to mind, and Johnny, and Bathsheba and definitely more who're slipping my mind at the moment) are written with little currents of nuance to them. They're not all my favourites, but they're all endearing in their own ways and I enjoy experiencing their stories. Because that's what Date Everything is, at its heart- a story filled with dozens and dozens of other interconnected stories. I do have biases, though.
This is Gaia, the globe. She's a socially awkward, easily excitable motormouth who absolutely loves learning about different places and longs to travel the world she depicts. She can come off as insensitive due to her obliviousness, so she doesn't have too many close friends, but she's cheerful and earnest and I absolutely adore her. (She was my first favourite, before the game even came out.)
XxxShadowl0rd420Xxx, or just Shadowlord, is the Lord of All Shadows who hangs out in a particular shadow in your house. He's extremely dramatic and mysterious, but also surprisingly friendly. There's not a whole lot more I can say about him without spoilers for his arc (which is quite possibly my favourite in the game), but he's incredibly dear to me. I accidentally got his hate ending my first run and I was bummed out for several days over it. XD
This is Prissy Plastique! Look at her, she's adorable. Prissy is a fake plant who's always wanted to become a real plant, and despite having no success yet she remains determined and hopeful, fully believing it will happen if she keeps trying. She ends up recruiting you to help her out, and her story is incredibly sweet. Again, I can't say too much without spoilers, but when I started my second file I saved Prissy for later in the game when the main plot slowed down because I love her route so much.
Mateo Manta, the blanket! Mateo's a huge animal lover who runs a rescue for "inanimals"- objects that take the form of animals rather than humanoids. He's a bit of a workaholic, and has trouble accepting help, but he's one of the kindest characters in the game and his arc made me cry. He was the first character I met in the game who hadn't really been on my radar before release, but quickly became one of my favourites.
I was contemplating putting in another dateable to round out this post, but I don't think that's fair when my absolute favourite character isn't a dateable at all. It's this idiot.
Known only as tinfoilhat, this is the guy who kicks off the game's plot by sending you the Dateviators. He shows up in your inbox, introduces himself as a "friendly yet anonymous hacker", and asks you to keep the Dateviators safe from Valdivian. Then he logs off, and a drone bearing a package breaks your window. Literally anything else I could say would be some level of spoilers, but it's really impossible for me to make a list of the things I like best about Date Everything and not include this guy.
