book smart.
James Potter was raised to be humble, polite, and the model citizen of the wizarding world. His younger sister by two years, Jane, was raised to be the exact same way. Mr. Potter is the newly appointed Minister for Magic, while his wife is currently the Head of the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. From a young age, James and Jane were both urged to join the Ministry once they were out of school.
Many believe that being the children of such high ranking officials would mean that the Potter children are spoiled, but they are sorely mistaken. If either James or Jane want something desperately, they must get some sort of job to raise the money themselves; despite the Potter vault at Gringotts to be overflowing with Galleons.
In James' fifth year, he met Tiffany Roberts. She was cunning, sweet, beautiful, and clever. However, she was also the rival of his house. James and Jane were both proud Gryffindors, just as their parents and their parents before them. The fact that Tiffany was a Slytherin didn't bother him in the least, and James simply brushed off this rivalry as something fun to do to pass the time before graduation. -- A few weeks before their O.W.L.s, James broke up with Tiffany to focus on his slipping grades, but the two remained good friends.
James always had another distraction, however, through Lily Evans. She was arrogant and boastful; but he had to admit to only himself that she was also beautiful, smart, and funny.
